TestSafe Australia is an internationally recognised testing, certification, research and investigation facility. It is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and is one of a small number of such facilities worldwide offering benchmarked testing and certification services to a wide range of industries. All testing and certification is done within strict quality assurance guidelines under TestSafe's ISO9000 certification to ensure that Test Reports, Quality Assurance Reports and Certification procedures meet the highest possible standards.
TestSafe Australia has occupied its current site for the last forty years. It was previously called "the Londonderry Centre" and then "Londonderry Occupational Safety Centre" with the acronym LOSC. Its current name which was registered in the later 1990's reflects the fact that it provides services to clients across Australia and internationally.
Its laboratories, fire grounds and fire gallery, together with its machine workshops have been utilised in the name of workplace safety throughout that period for a wide range of industry purposes.
During its history as a testing facility, TestSafe has acquired expertise, equipment and custom built testing rigs, which enable it to undertake a wide variety of often complex testing procedures on behalf of its clients. Testing and certification is carried out in conformance with Australian and/or International Standards.
Importantly, given the fact that TestSafe Australia is owned by WorkCover NSW (the NSW Government's workplace safety regulator) all tests are conducted within a safe and secure working environment implementing comprehensive risk management procedures.
To support testing requirements, TestSafe has received audited environmental exemptions, from the NSW Environment Protection Authority to safely test explosives, fire extinguishers and other safety equipment and systems in real life outdoor settings. Extensive buffer zones and surrounding bushland (approximately 20 hectares) minimise noise and inconvenience to our neighbours. Because of urban expansion, TestSafe has become the only site within the Sydney Metropolitan area capable of providing this full range of services. State and local Fire Brigades also use the TestSafe fire grounds for fire and safety training purposes.
Over the years TestSafe has recruited engineers, scientists and technical staff with a high level of expertise. The bulk of these experts have NATA signatory status in their own right to conduct specific tests. In recognition of their expertise, many of TestSafe's staff are also involved in either chairing, or as members of Australian and International Standards Committees
Testing and Certification of electrical equipment has required the installation of major supporting infrastructure including an 11kV electrical ring-main system to ensure the provision of a clean regulated power supply essential for electrical testing.
