Australian (Ex) Certification

Product certification, issued by TestSafe Australia, is intended to verify the manufacturer's compliance with either the Standards covered by the AUSEx or ANZEx Explosion Protected Electrical Equipment Schemes. These Schemes provide independent proof of a manufacturer's claimed compliance with the requirements of technical Standards covering electrical equipment for use in explosive atmospheres.

The AUSEx Scheme (Standards Australia Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas Certification Scheme) operates as a Type Test Scheme requiring independent testing of representative samples with a certificate of conformity issued for a 10-year period.

Note: No applications for new AUSEx certificates are accepted after 31 December 2003. TestSafe application forms for a supplementary certificate for the AUSEx scheme.

The ANZEx Scheme (Australian/New Zealand Certification Scheme) is a quality based scheme requiring the same level of testing required under the AUSEx Scheme with the addition of on-site assessment of the manufacturer's quality system and product quality plans, as well as on-going surveillance of the manufacturer. For ISO 9001 certified manufacturers with an appropriate certification scope the surveillance audits are conducted annually, and for manufacturers that do not hold ISO 9001 certification the surveillance audits shall be conducted twice per year.

Being a quality-based scheme there is no expiry of the certificate, provided the Scheme rules are abided by. TestSafe application forms for ANZEx Scheme.

TestSafe's qualified, skilled, and experienced Ex engineers and senior technical officers are trained to conduct on-site quality assessments at manufacturer's locations against the requirements of the ANZEx and IECEx Schemes, as well as under the ATEX Directive, as detailed below. Our staff have conducted quality assessments in various regions of the world as well as within Australia.

The AUSEx and ANZEx schemes are administered by CRA-International, which maintains the online EPEE (Explosion Protected Electrical Equipment) website database for all Australian certified products and certificates. Certificates may be located at ANZEx website: http://www.anzex.com.au

Applicants in possession of an IECEx Assessment and Test Report (ExTR) may achieve AUSEX or ANZEx Certification from TestSafe via a fast-track mechanism that enables TestSafe to issue certification without necessarily repeating product testing and assessment. TestSafe will conduct a technical review of the ExTR documentation and then proceed to the requirements of certification.

If you require any further information please use the enquiry form.

Applicants in possession of a current AUSEx certificate can achieve ANZEx Certification from TestSafe without necessarily repeating product testing and assessment. This method is applicable only when the equipment design is identical to the original AUSEx certificate. TestSafe will conduct a technical review and then proceed to the requirements of certification. TestSafe information sheet for achieving ANZEx Certification using current AUSEx certificate.
