Diesel Engines

TestSafe Australia operates a 400 kW engine dynamometer and can conduct the following testing of diesel engines:

  • Comparison testing of fuels for power and emissions.
  • Tests for engine characteristics, exhaust emissions, surface temperatures, fuel consumption etc.

Type Testing

Full Type testing of diesel engines systems to AS/NZS 3584.2:2003 for underground coal mining applications. This include:

  • Flame propagation and pressure determination testing, exhaust conditioner shutdown water levels and hydrostatic testing.
  • Dynamometer testing of diesel engines for performance, exhaust emissions, surface temperatures, fuel and exhaust conditioner water consumption and safety shutdown systems.
  • Smoke Testing
  • Exhaust Filter Testing

TestSafe Australia is NATA accredited for testing to AS/NZS 3584.2 and AS/NZS 3584.1. TestSafe Australia is an independent testing authority operating under a quality management system to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 and is recognised for the majority of its testing work as a NATA accredited laboratory under ISO/IEC 17025-1999.

We will also consider undertaking test requirements to other standards or similar tests as required. Should you require any further information, please use our enquiry form.

Diesel Test Australia

TestSafe Australia has a cooperative operation with Diesel Test Australia, who share the facility. Diesel Test Australia also operate a 500 kW chassis dynamometer.

Diesel Test Australia can conduct the following testing :

  • Various trials conducted to analyse various fuels compared to "standard" automotive fuels. Includes work on low sulphur diesel fuels.
  • We are authorised by the Federal Government to provide DT80 testing services under the Diesel Fuel Tax Credit scheme.

Fuel comparison trials to compare the performance of different fuels under controlled conditions. This includes:

  • Power, torque, fuel consumption and gaseous emissions measurements including diesel particulate matter.
  • Diesel particulate matter is measured using a full flow exhaust dilution tunnel with collection of particulate matter on filter papers for mass measurement.
  • Performance and emission testing of all diesel engines to other standards such as ADR 80, up to the maximum power capability of the dynamometer (400kW). Includes high-speed data logging, and data analysis, online exhaust emission measurement and full flow dilution tunnel for mass measurement of diesel particulates.

Future Directions

  • ADR 80/00 - formalisation of this testing with NATA accreditation.
