Oil-immersion testing

Oil immersion testing determines if the protective liquid in which the electrical equipment is immersed can prevent an explosive gas atmosphere from coming into contact with live parts.

The design requirements for electrical equipment using oil immersion are set out in the International Standard IEC 60079-6 and Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 60079.6.

Fire point and flash point, viscosity and electrical breakdown strength of the liquid, together with the construction of the electrical components and the enclosure, all play a part in the assessment and testing of oil immersed electrical equipment for certification.

View our checklist to see if the product complies with the relevant clauses of relevant clauses of Oil Immersion - IEC 60079-6 before sending for certification.
