Gases & Vapours
IEC 60079-1 - Flameproof "Ex d"
The facilities exist for large coal mining Group I and above ground Group II electrical equipment testing. Products such as luminaries, metering devices, motors, generators, brakes, valve actuators, plugs and sockets or any robust equipment that can withstand the explosive forces of a potentially hazardous gas/air mixture, when ignited within the enclosure, may be assessed and tested for compliance with the Standard.
It is important to highlight all flamepaths and provide limits to the constructional gaps and tolerances for all relevant machining. The Standard sets down the maximum gaps for a specified flamepath for all gas groups and free air volume of the enclosures.

Load tests can be conducted on flameproof control enclosures up to 1500 A, 3-phase; also rotating machines up to 400 kW. Through current and short circuit tests are also possible, when it is requested, as part of the flameproof investigation, although it is not covered by the "Ex" certificate. A separate report is issued.
- For information that should be addressed prior to submission for Certification, please check through General Requirements IEC 60079-0 and check that the product can comply with the relevant clauses of: Flameproof "Ex d" - IEC 60079-1.
