IEC 60079- 5 - Powder Filling "Ex q"

Products using the Powder Filling "q" explosion-protection technique are not a frequent type of protection submitted to the Testing Station for Certification. The technique is useful in applications that combine two or more types of protection to form an assembly that is used in Zone 1 hazardous areas. There are limits to the power that may be contained within a powder filled enclosure. The Standard sets the limits to a maximum rated current of 16 Amps, a maximum rated power consumption of 1000 VA and a supply of not greater than 1,100 Volts. Voltages within the "q" enclosure may exceed the Supply volts but there are limits to the energy that may be stored.

Special filling arrangements are required to ensure that the, dry glass beads fit closely together around all components within the enclosure to ensure there are no significant voids. There are minimum requirements regarding distance to earthed metal from any live component through the filling medium.

We will also consider test requirements to other standards or similar tests as required, please use the enquiry form.
